Here’s what’s on my mind today: The Lord is never not-faithful. However, when we take godly principles for God’s promises, we can be left feeling as if He has not been faithful.
Consider the principle that reads if you train a child in the way of the Lord, when they’re old, they will not depart from it. What happens when children grow up and choose to turn away anyway? Who then is to blame? Do you see how problematic it can be to teach principles as promises?
God is faithful, but He’s no genie in a Bible/Bottle. When our understanding of Scripture contradicts God’s character, we’re left with a skewed understanding of His nature. If we misunderstand His nature we will also misunderstand His ways.
Is this speaking to you? Perhaps the reason you’ve distanced yourself from the Lord isn’t so much about God failing you, but a misunderstanding that falls short.
Scriptural principles, as wonderful as they are, are not promises.
Friends, hear me… it’s ok to rest! It’s ok to not fully understand. It’s ok to feel all the feelings that come with life’s disappointments. But know this, at the end of the day, the Lord is good, faithful, and just in all of His ways.
Draw near to Him, He cares. #TheologyMatters
